04/20/10 - Lyreco supports the education of young children around the world
Lyreco supports the education of young children around the world

As part of the “Lyreco For Education’ programme, Lyreco, an international supplier of office products, supports the education of children in developing countries. “The Lyreco For Education programme originated from our belief that education is a strong lever in development. Through Lyreco For Education and the firm actions we take, we commit ourselvesto the long term support of education for children throughout the world” states Eric Bigeard - Lyreco CEO.

Every year, Lyreco For Education supports a project in a different country. In 2009, Lyreco established a partnership with AEA a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) for the development through education to support the education of young children in North Vietnam. This partnership financed a project which supported nursery schools located in the Phu Luong district in North Vietnam enabling a better start in life for these young children. For this occasion, Lyreco called on all its employees, suppliers and customers to join its efforts in raising money for the project and added one extra euro for every euro donated by its employees.

On January 26 2010, at the Lyreco headquarters in Marly, Eric Bigeard officially handed over a cheque of 187,507 euros to Florent Marcoux, AEA Director in France. “We are proud and happy to have joined AEA and therefore ensure a better future for 2,300 Vietnamese children every year. Early 2009, we set an objective to collect 150,000 euros throughout the group. Thanks to the fantastic enthusiasm of our 10,000 employees, we overachieved this amount as everyone got so deeply involved in this fascinating project!” added Eric Bigeard.

As a result of the Lyreco-AEA partnership, 2,300 children aged 0-5 yearsreceive better quality care and education while their families have access to awareness raising activities about the importance of early childhood care and education. At the same time, some one hundred teachers havereceived training on teaching methods, educational themes, nutrition, design of toys etc; 4 nursery schools got newplaygrounds; 20 class have been renovated and equipped with educational kits and toys. In total, by the end of 2010, more than 8,000 families and 32,000 inhabitants will have their lives improved by the awareness raising activities on care and education.

For 2010, Lyreco chose to partner with CARE, an international NGO specialised in fighting global poverty, to support an education project in a poor suburb of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil: Duque de Caxias suffers from significant problems of violence due to frequent armed conflicts and drug trafficking. Absenteeism and drop-out rates in school are very high. The objective is to create an “educating community” that brings together schools, community organisations and children. “We have just presented the 2010 project to our employees who are highly motivated to get involved again!” When asking the Lyreco CEO what Lyreco For Education wants to achieve in 2010, Eric Bigeard answers: “To do even better than in 2009 so we help more and more children!”

IMPEGA TO LYRECO
Lyreco, ranked amongst the first worldwide distributor of office supplies, has announced the change of name for its range of private label products from Impega to Lyreco.

Impega is one of the most powerful European office products brand. Having first been launched in the French market over 40 years ago, it is now a market leader in many European markets. The clear goal of the change is to simply reinforce the strength of the Lyreco brand by extending the loyalty on products to the company.

The Lyreco range will maintain the already market-leading quality/price levels. In that way, Impega Premium, Impega and Impega budget will become Lyreco Premium, Lyreco and Lyreco Budget. The recently launched external product quality testing programme will continue to be extended across this full range.

The complete changeover from Impega to Lyreco will be finalised in the 2010 catalogue, leaving 18 months to manage the progressive switch.

Lyreco’s product proposition remains unchanged meaning Lyreco will continue to encourage and develop the sale of leading manufacturer brands.

A new way for Lyreco to confirm its presence on the global marketplace!

09/10/09 - Lyreco joins with AEA to support the education of young children in Vietnam
Lyreco joins with AEA to support the education of young children in Vietnam
AEA (Aide et Action), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) for the development through education has set up a partnership with Lyreco, international supplier of office supplies, to support the education of young children in North Vietnam. As part of the programme yreco for Education? Lyreco is calling on all its employees from the 29 countries where the company is present in order to collect the greatest amount of funds.

The partnership between AEA (Aide et Action) and Lyreco will help to finance a project supporting nursery schools located in North Vietnam thus enabling a better start in life for these young children. In Vietnam, early childhood is the area of education with the greatest difficulties. It suffers from a lack of infrastructures and equipment, health problems among children, malnutrition, etc. The rate of malnutrition in Vietnamese children is the highest in the world. In 2005, it concerned 1 child in 4 aged under 5 and is, according to the WHO (World Health Organisation), responsible for half of the infant mortality. This rate is particularly high in the mountains, in the countryside and in areas gathering ethnic minority groups: which is where AEA operates first.

Thanks to the Lyreco-AEA (Aide et Action) partnership with nursery schools of 4 villages of the district of Phu Luong (Thai Nguyen Province, Vietnam), more than 2,000 children aged 0-5 years will receive better quality care and education, while their families get access to awareness raising activities about the importance of early childhood care and education. At the same time, some one hundred teachers will get training on teaching methods, educational themes, nutrition, design of toys?4 nursery schools will get playgrounds; 20 classes will be renovated and equipped with educational kits and toys. In total, by the end of 2010, more than 8,000 families and 32,000 inhabitants will be directly or indirectly impacted by the awareness raising activities on care and education.

The Lyreco for Education programme originated from the shared belief we have in education, as a strong lever of development. Through Lyreco for Education, we transform our conviction into real action and we commit ourselvesover the long term to the support of education for children throughout the world?states Eric Bigeard - Lyreco CEO. The Lyreco for Education programme has been welcomed with great enthusiasm by our 10,500 employees, who involve themselves concretely and personally in this fascinating project. We are proud and happy to join AEA this year and to contribute to the improvement of education for the children of Thai Nguyen in Vietnam.?o:p>

Claire Calosci - General Director of AEA (Aide et Action) International, adds: AEA has been developing for a long time efficient partnership strategies with local players on the field. Today, we are turning towards companies to support us in these field projects. It is important to us to see economic actors such as Lyreco joining us to support education around the world. Ensuring a good start for children from their first years in life is crucial as this will allow them to grow in good physical and mental health and set solid bases for their future. It is essential that the economic world realises this.?o:p>
